The quality concept has been developed over many generations. The presentation will describe the development of the quality movement through four sequential generations over centuries and how a fifth generation is currently approaching – Quality 5.0. Building on the different generations of quality, the fifth generation reveals differing needs between customers and stakeholders. In the new generation of quality, “societal satisfaction” would be a more appropriate way of measuring sustainable success. As a result of this, and to support societal satisfaction, additional quality management models are needed to complement prevailing managerial approaches. For organisations to successfully manage current, fast-changing environments, existing management models need to be further developed. Hence, a generic model for sustainable development is proposed. The sustainability model supports all organizations, private or public, large or small, on their pathway towards a sustainable future and organisational sustainable success. The presentation will also elaborate on the different factors behind how an organisation can achieve sustainable success.
