EXPAT Project – Quality of life through eyes of talented foreign employees
Nowadays key component of economic success is talented personnel able to create value. However demographic situation in Northern Europe is at best zero growth or even decline in number of population. Therefore it is increasingly important to attract talented persons form abroad to fill the gaps on labour market. One attempt to understand and address the essence of this challenge was initiated by EXPAT Project which is joint effort of four countries – Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Latvia. EXPAT Project: Innovative Services for International Talents -Easier Access to the Central Baltic Sea Region is part financed by EU through Central Baltic Interreg IVA programme. Current satisfaction level of talented foreigners living in abovementioned four countries was measured through online survey and workshops were organised in each location. Survey revealed several development needs in area of addressing needs of EU citizens. Several challenges are in basic services like visas, finding place to live, set up a company etc. More important is additional support to language training and socially linking talented people with locals. Here is a huge challenge to be addressed on governmental and municipal level together with NGOs in all countries Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Sweden.
